Anti-Government Protestors Hold Rare Rally in Saudi Arabia

(Mosaic Video Alert: 1600 PST, March 4, 2011) Al Alam TV reports on a popular demonstration launched today in the Saudi capital of Riyadh, following noon prayers. Protestors are demanding the Saudi government implement constitutional and legal reforms, release political prisoners, and stop restricting political freedoms and the media. In a similar demonstration in al-Qatif, over 20 demonstrators were injured, as security forces attempted to disperse the crowd by using live bullets and beating women.

Iraq's 'Friday of Dignity' Draws Thousands

(Mosaic Video Alert: 1700 PST, March 4, 2011) Dubai TV reports on the thousands of anti-government protestors demanding reform in Baghdad’s Tahrir Square. Iraqi authorities implemented heavy security measures to prevent the weekly protest from occurring. These measures included imposing a midnight curfew, setting up concrete barriers and barbed wire on major city streets, and deploying a large number of anti-riot police. Despite these efforts, over 5,000 protestors gathered for what is being called the “Friday of Dignity” to honor the dignity of martyrs who were killed in last Friday's protest.

Gaddafi's Military Capabilities

(Al Jazeera English: 1745 PST, March 2, 2011) As fighting in Libya intensifies, attention is now turning to the stockpile of weapons Muammar Gaddafi, the Libyan leader, may have built up over four decades of rule. Fears over what Gaddafi could have at his disposal, however, may well not match up with reality, given that the airworthiness of his fighter jets is being questioned, and that years of sanctions and neglect may have rendered much of the army's equipment useless. Airstrikes in Brega, Libya

(Al Jazeera English: 0830 PST, March 2, 2011) As Libyan air force pilots still loyal to Gaddafi drop bombs on the oil-rich town of Brega in the north of the country, armed Gaddafi opponents encircle his loyalists in the center of the town. Libya leader appears on national television

(Euronews: 0600 PST, March 2, 2011) In a show to the world, Libya's leader Muammar Gaddafi appeared on national television live from Tripoli in front of his supporters. And - in the year marking the 34th anniversary of his power to the masses - his message was that the world doesn't understand his country's system that puts power in the hands of the people.
