(Mosaic Video Alert: March 30, 2011) On the ‘Friday of Perseverance,’ Iraqi residents took to the streets to demand political reform, an end to corruption, and an improvement of public services. Iraq's al-Rafidain TV interviewed writer and political analyst Dr. Abdul Karim al-Alluji to discuss the media blackout on the protests occurring in Iraq. He said that while Iraq is witnessing a revolution similar to those of its neighbors, much of it has been unreported. He stated that he doesn’t know if it is deliberate but that it is unfortunate and that the country has been “left to suffer on its own from hardships, killings, and destruction.”
(Mosaic Video Alert: 1700 PST, March 4, 2011) Dubai TV reports on the thousands of anti-government protestors demanding reform in Baghdad’s Tahrir Square. Iraqi authorities implemented heavy security measures to prevent the weekly protest from occurring. These measures included imposing a midnight curfew, setting up concrete barriers and barbed wire on major city streets, and deploying a large number of anti-riot police. Despite these efforts, over 5,000 protestors gathered for what is being called the “Friday of Dignity” to honor the dignity of martyrs who were killed in last Friday's protest.
(Al Jazeera English Headlines: 0600 PST, March 4, 2011) In Libya, rebel fighters are continuing to take on Colonel Gaddafi's security forces in towns across the country. Fresh fighting has erupted in the western towns of Az Zawiyah and Misurata, and there are reports of anti-government protests in the capital Tripoli.
And after Friday prayers there have been more protests calling for change across the Arab world, including demonstrations in Egypt, Iraq, and Yemen.
