The Arab Spring Crosses Borders for Nakba Day

(Mosaic Video Alert: March 16, 2011) Marches were held across Palestinian cities and in several Arab capitals to commemorate the 63rd anniversary of the Nakba, or Day of Catastrophe. Many people were killed and hundreds injured during demonstrations that called for the restoration of Palestinian land and rights. Lebanon, Egypt, Bahrain, and Jordan are among the countries that witnessed Nakba marches in solidarity with the Palestinian people. Al-Alam reports.

Profile of the "Lion of the Desert", the late Omar al-Mukhtar

(Mosaic Video Alert: April 7, 2011) New TV features a profile on Libyan leader Omar al-Mukhtar, also known as the “Lion of the Desert,” and the “Sheikh of the Mujahideen.” In the early 20th century, al-Mukhtar founded the resistance movement in Libya against the Italian occupation and has long been seen by Arabs, especially Libyans, as a role model. In 1931, he was sentenced to death and executed by Italian forces in front of 20,000 Libyans.

The Tough Reality of Achieving Peace

David, it is clear that you have opposed all settlements on occupied Palestinian lands since 1968. If there were more people like you in Israel, perhaps a critical mass would compel consecutive Israeli governments to stop its settlement building, which continues until this very writing. Obviously, having a dialogue about what is happening there is not the same as affecting policy changes on the ground. But our positions on this issue are clear. Since 1967, the Israeli government has been slowly, illegally annexing Palestinian lands through its settlement and security policies--making it almost impossible for a Palestinian state to emerge.

This is a short video, which I believe shows how difficult it is for a two-state solution to succeed.
