Syrian Security Forces Open Fire on Sit-in

(Associated Press: 0818 PST, April 19, 2011) Syria issued a stern warning to the nation to stop protesting, hours after security forces opened fire on hundreds of anti-government demonstrators during a pre-dawn raid that killed at least one person.

 

 

WikiLeaks Reveals US Support for Syrian Opposition

(Euronews: 0727 PST, April 19, 2011) Human rights groups say Syrian security forces used "heavy fire" against anti-government protesters in the city of Homs overnight. At the same time, WikiLeaks documents have revealed the US has secretly spent $6 million since 2006 supporting Syrian opposition groups. The Syrian government has repeatedly blamed the recent unrest on foreign interference.

 

 

Syrian Protesters and Goverment Walking Fine Line

Syria Update: Cabinet Resigns Amid Unrest

(Al Jazeera English: 0653 PST, March 29, 2011) The Syrian government has resigned, an offer accepted by President Bashar al-Assad. We are also hearing Assad has appointed Naji Otari, the head of the now defunct government, as the new caretaker prime minister. The president is expected to address the public in the coming hours. Al Jazeera's Rula Amin, reporting from the capital Damascus, has the latest.

 

 

Pro-Assad Rally Staged in Damascus

(Al Jazeera English: 0739 PST, March 29, 2011) Thousands of Syrians gathered to show their support for President Bashar al-Assad in the capital Damascus on Tuesday. This apparent outpouring of support comes after protesters in several Syrian cities took to the streets to demand more freedom.
