Dear LinkTV, I have admired the work of John Pilger for many years, and while watching him on 'Democracy Now',was HOPING that you would be bringing us a viewing of the documentary "The War on Terror", in the very near future?
As the future gets nearer, America just seems to get nearer to Mr Orwell's "1984" and 'Newspeak'!

Thankyou!

Also on the topic of Pilger's film, there's an article in The Guardian UK's blog (http://blogs.guardian.co.uk/film/2007/06/pilger.html) and an article, also at The Guardian, by Pilger himself: http://film.guardian.co.uk/features/featurepages/0,,2101520,00.html

I recently saw John Pilger on Amy's show. He's made a film, "The War on Democracy" that apparently is not going to be distributed (Lions Gate) here.

That's troubling because as we debate immigration, our conversation will not be informed by this important work. Most Americans have no idea how much we have undermined democracy in Latin America.

Chavez has a large amount of influence in Latin America. These areas have been through incredible hardship having been conquered, colonized and repeatedly used and exploited.

Chavez is seen as resisting the global capitalism and imperialism that threatens the region. He is promoting a socialist agenda which has been very popular among the non-elite. Venezuelan oil wealth lends him the ability to carry out his plans without needing capitalization from the US.

The US has been supporting the opposition. Anyone surprised?

Last week, President Bush and Hugo Chavez had concurrent and competing tours through Latin America to garner support (See the new Latin Pulse for more). In many cases, Bush's arrival was protested while Chavez was welcomed with open arms. How much sway does Chavez really hold over the rest of Latin America and how much are the protests a matter of being anti-Bush versus anti-American?
