It's all filtering down into CHAOS because our Government,since Bush,Clinton and Bush,failed before,and after 9/11,to protect the structure of American Constutional Governance and legislature,through panic,and has been in chaos ever since.
They blamed it ALL on 9/11,which is the VERY thing they could have actually AVOIDED if they had been on their toes and organised as ONE GOVERNMENT.
Especially as they had secret service info(CIA,CTC,FBI,MI5-6 etc) and evidence a YEAR before 9/11 happened,that something BIG was going down,and after Jan 2001 actually knew some of the attackers,what they were doing and who they were talking to on phones etc.
They lost the values,morals and courage,not to mention principles to stand up for values and the rule of law and DUE PROCESS.
So, if the guys at the top are fumbling around in utter chaos,like headless chickens,how can we expect the small fry law enforcers on the street level to follow what the top have shredded and dumped?
The Government FAILED,PANICKED,LOST CONTROL after 9/11,of the Constitutional structure of the rule of law/due process and WHAM,the whole thing has crumbled since then.
The other side being that the millions of ordinary Americans are now out of home,health,education,jobs and TRUST in their leaders so more unrest is arising.
To cope with that they have to increase the quantity of 'law enforcers' on the street,but they are sacrifing intelligent QUALITY of law enforcers for QUANTITY of whatever they can drag off the unemployment lines that has muscle and no brain.
There is no vetting for quality now.Just stick a badge on a lump of muscle and set it loose.
Same in the Army,God help it!
And you wait and see what happens when Obama brings in the DRAFT,if he continues to follow this ludricrous military occupation/invasion on 3 or 4 foreign fronts.

Police brutality, as shown on many vidio's, should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. The fact that many Police Departments, by default, endorse this type of behavior is unconsionable.

This type of behavior is not warrented in a free society. I realise that police officers have a very difficult job & put their lives on the line everyday, but that does not give them the right to beat a person who is not able to protect themselves & is offering no resistance.

I am afraid that this nations Police Force is dissolving into a vigilanti type thing.

I want to support my local police department, but I am extremely disturbed by the actions of other police departments. How can we be sure that our police departmnent is actually following the law?

I don't think we (the USA) should "torture" for several reasons:
1-If you inflict enough pain on somebody, eventually they will say anything you want to make it stop.
2-For the folks who tortured people 184 times; did they think after the 183rd time things would be different? what about the 151st time, or 76th time?
3-The prisoners have been in there for several years, what could they possibly know after all this time that would be of use?
4-It leaves our soldiers vulnerable to torture (which I'll address in a bit).
5-It makes the USA look very bad in the eyes of the world and only fans the flames of hatred of younger muslim generations towards the west.

That being said, I think the bar for what's considered torture has been lowered to ridiculous levels. Playing Abba music 24/7 isn't "torture" (at least in the context here, but that's another story). Bad tasting, low-variety foods isn't torture, as long as it's nutritious enough to sustain a healthy human, it's good enough. I don't want to hear about prisoners complaining that their lamb-chops are too well done or that their strawberry's are out of season. I believe that physical torture should be out of practice but methods of psychological "torture" aren't really torture at all. For example, solitary confinement is not torture, neither is sleep depravation by means of altering their environment (i.e. music, lights). Hitting somebody in the head with a pole every ten minutes so they can't sleep would be torture. Long hours of questioning under the hot lamp is not torture. Waterboarding has gotten so much attention because it falls near the line of physical and psychological torture. You make a person feel like they are drowning/dying but they aren't being drowned or killed. So on one hand, you are making them think of the impending doom by physically punishing them. I don't really see the point in this which is why I don't think waterboarding is right or particularly useful (see points 2 and 3). Whether or not they should or shouldn't be there in the first place needs to be looked at on an individual basis. Prisoners with evidence against them of crimes they've commited should be tried in court and punished accordingly.

Now the other side, the extremist muslims also torture yet they don't get any of the heat that the USA gets. They post videos of our citizens getting beheaded alive, with a pocket-knife and you don't hear anything about it other than a news headline on MSNBC's homepage for the day. They execute people at will, and also target non-military personel (journalists, photographers, etc). They drag bodies through the streets and burn people alive. These things are much worse than waterboarding. If you make the argument that you want to hold the USA to a higher standard then you can't be against the USA "policing" Iraq until they are self-sustaining. If you want to hold everybody to the same standards of torture then more pressure needs to be put on the extremist muslims who openly torture military and civilians alike. Thoughts?
