I agree with you on bad since the framers, but lets be realistic about humans. They are seldom able, as a mass, to make good changes in large amounts. It takes time. They had slaves and knew it was wrong, but that was the sad truth of the days they lived in. I personally cut them some slack. We did not, however, take the ball and run very far with it.
