Jsut think,before the Russians moved in at the end of 1979 Afghani women were aminly independent,going to school,college,work etc and some wearing western clothes under their Democracy.
Then Russia stormed in an the US started funding/arming the local Taliban/Mujahadeen against the Russians and life for Afghan women has been hell ever since.ESPECIALLY SINCE the US and coalition moved in.
The whole documentary of "Rethinking Afghanistan" is excellant and well worth watching(all 6 parts)especially in light of tomorrow's Afghan elections and possible SELECTION of Karzai,who doesn't protect women from abuse or recognise their independent rights,and Obama's INCREASING of troops/contractors there.
