I suppose Bush's visit to Israel today was no more or less than the usual 3 ring circus. Justice is not a concept that exists in Mr. Bush's mental vocabulary. But the princely president holding court while, on the other side of some temporary barriers, families are murdered, school children assaulted, houses are demolished and the people's land continues to be stolen, is like something out of the sci-fi/noir tradition.

We can see it on our little screens, but even so it seems surreal. Who could live like this? Who could perpetrate this vicious hypocrisy? When will the scruffy bunch of heroes rise up and place the wrench into the gears that will bring the machine, eventually, to it's demise? Surely, you've seen that movie. Will the Mahdi show up with Jesus at his side to say "enough"? I've seen that one too, but the first is a more interesting possibility.

They say that the Arab press is 'capitalizing on people's pain' when they show footage of what is really happening to the people, while the 'free press' in the west conveniently obscures any news that might cause people discomfort or incite a desire for change. I have to wonder how we're ever going to get back to the right side of the mirror.

SO,what is the visit for? Just a photo-op,or so the history books can show that as 'Prezzie' he ACTUALLY set foot in Gaza/Israel etc and 'made an effort'? Whoopee!(YAWN!)
Oh,and when you leave the West Bank,to come home,bring me a piece of that snaking prison/apartheid wall so I can put it where it belongs.........in the garbage!!!!
