I find that that the system and our freedom to vote for the candidate of our choice is seriously flawed due to the electoral college. The purpose of the EC hasn't been needed for over a century. The EC keeps us trapped into the two party system, blocking out any third party candidate. The ping-pong game of Democrat/Republican presidencies can end and we can expand our choices of who to vote for.

oh! sorry, another thing i might add. You could possibly improve the election system as it stands in one way. Get rid of the assumption that people have about their votes being a "private" issue. This is a classic example of despotism. To have a system that is supposedly democratic, but at the same time, encourages people to be secretive about who and what they vote for, causes corruption to have an open playing field. How do you know your vote counted? If you don't know how each and every individual casted their vote, then that makes you ignorant. Just the way they like it.

One possible way could be a national database set up so that when you vote for someone or something, you get a reciept AND you can access a computer database or something to that effect, do verify your vote. Kinda like an online banking account that everyone has access to. Of course you will never see something so honest in our election system.

To further elaborate, the change will eventually come, but not before things get so bad in america, that we almost destroy ourselves. Kinda like what happened in the 30's witht he depression. When the majority of poor got so numereous that the rich could no longer substain the tide of discontent.

What you are calling for is a new Constitution. The Constitution is set up to give the minority vote just as much power as the majority. So the aggrevation you are feeling with the election system is the inability of the system to cater to the every increasing majority of people who need government help. Instead the minority of well off individuals are able to stand against such change. This is intentional. It requires recontruction of the constitution.

I know,and I think that's disgraceful! It's bad enough that American people are herded by the $ into either red or blue 'pens 'REGARDLESS'of the fact that they may prefer(and have a legal right to)a more 'lavender'(mix of red,white & blue views)opinion on whose hands America should be in,and what they do with the Presidential office,that serves THE PEOPLE!
I cannot believe that true Democracy in America is abandoning the very voters,i.e. the ordinary hard-working,no tax-breaks,'can't afford any frills' population who are the very roots of democracy! All the campaign/national taxpayer money that has been squandered on those first view primaries,INSTEAD of enabling EVERY State across THE BOARD to cast a valid vote,is SCANDALOUS!
If America wants "experience"in the White House,then its defunct election system has just tossed 3 guys(and ALL their respectable voters nationwide)who have OODLES of international and domestic political/diplomatic experience,ONTO THE ELECTION GARBAGE DUMP!
YOO HOO! 'Mighty' Senators/governors et al! Remember all that land that the French sold you?The same,that Lewis and Clarke etc mapped out for you,COAST TO COAST,"sea to shining sea"? Well,people DID settle there,you know! There are proud people who have fought for America at the behest of you guys/gals(who WE pay to be "PUBLIC SERVANTS") still out in those parts,and millions of youngsters(comparably)who hold a precious vote in their fists,and have a citizens right to have ther votes COUNTED,legitimately,on more than a GARBAGE dump!
It's not good enough to hear ex-candidates say,'well the campaign coffers won't cover you guys out there'!
Remember that some of that campaign money ALREADY IN THE COFFERS,comes from ordinary folks who can ill afford it,BUT OPTIMISTICALLY(if foolishly)have faith that their representatives will not forget them!
So tell me MSSRS DODD,BIDEN,RICHARDSON and any other early 'ship-jumpers',as you leave your distant supporters,waving your banners,in the political desert,WHICH is more important to you?
The big fat wad of campaign money handed to you by ONE LOBBYIST with a personal agenda? OR,thousands(if not millions) of loyal citizens who can only afford 5-10-20 bucks to help the cause of AMERICA?
Don't tell me which makes your hearts beat faster! We know that c**p already by watching your actions regardless of the eternal verbage!
And,the further one gets from old D.C. the less 'equal'we all become,as citizens and voters.That's the picture this election system paints! So whitewash it,and REPAINT IT!
Jeez! I dread to think what will happen when election time comes to the Katrina-hit people who remain homeless,displaced,unserved and uncared for.Looks to me,like they have ALREADY been tossed on the 'nullandvoid' vote heap! Until,that is,Trump comes in with his 7oo millionaire condos! Then that area will be noticed!

And what's worse, did you know that by the time the main vote count gets to the western states (mostly California), they don't even count the western states vote, unless they need a few to meet their tally? And they "say" every vote counts, ha. When in actuality, only the richest states decide who's going to be president. So much for "democracy".

How on EARTH can the USA claim to be the quintessential 'Democracy' when here we are,ONLY in the primaries and TWO STATES ONLY(and limited counties)along and now BILL RICHARDSON(New Mexico) DROPS OUT!!!!!!

What about all the other people in the OTHER 48 STATES who may have been willing and able to cast a vote for Dodd,Biden,Richardson etc.
Are these candidates,by dropping out,admitting that they don't give a s**t about their supporters elsewhere in these great dis-UNITED STATES,other than Iowa,New Hampshire.Carolina,Pennsylvania etc etc? All those candidates that have dropped out have JUST TURNED THEIR BACKS on millions of voters!!!! And,it's only the god darn primaries to boot!!
It's bad enough that the system is ALREADY using pre-rigged machines in areas,and that people who are entitled to vote get TURNED AWAY for some petty reason,real or contrived! And all the other cheap illegal and unethical tricks that are used to suppress the mighty 'Democratic' right to VOTE!!!

To have a system where the results of only 2,I REPEAT....2 !!!!,STATES can take away millions of OTHER PEOPLES voting options IS APPALLING!!!!!

Maybe they should have called it N.V.M.(No Votes Matter)?
