Well Done Gibney! I didn't watch the Oscars but was very pleased to see,on Democracy Now,this a.m. that his documentary 'Taxi to the Dark Side' won one of the awards.AND,I was pleased to hear that HBO have bought the viewing option to show the documentary.
I sent a letter to two Senators, suggesting STRONGLY,that BEFORE any more votes are passed on Bush's continued abuse of Guantanamo,Bagram,Diego Garcia etc and considering the present state of Senate and House votes(and threatened Presidential VETO)on warrantless wire-tapping,telecom companies immunity from Rule Of Law and Constitutional binding THAT PERHAPS IT SHOULD BE MANDATORY that ALL members of the House and Senate should WATCH Alex Gibneys DOCUMENTARY very carefully and address their own consciences before giving in to ANY pressure to vote for anything that is universally immmoral and unethical, and results in the un-necessary and tragic torture and death of innocent civilians.
If Alex's father was a Naval interrogator,an officer of the United States Armed Forces AND HIS conscience drove his son to push hard to get the truth out on film then I admire him and any other man or woman in uniform who is strong enough to say,'Hey,my soul tells me that what we are doing is NOT the way it should BE'!
My father was a POW and escapee 3 times OVER IN WW2,he knew the Geneva Conventions and was surrounded by friend and FOE who ABIDED by them,as gentlemen!!!
The last thing one did was dishonour and shame your country and uniform,REGARDLESS of what others DID! They did not "STOOP" in order to "conquer".
So,HBO you have managed over the years to show plenty of fantasized and glorified themes of violence and human abuse in your drama series, along with some exemplary documentaries TOO. I hope you treat Gibneys documentary of transparent truth with the respect it deserves.
And every Senator, before casting a 'flirtatious fickle vote' on American(and universal)human rights and privacy should HUMBLE themselves by watching 'Taxi to the Dark Side' FIRST! Then ask their souls,'WHICH IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO'?
LOL! LOL! Maybe Discovery Channel has BOUGHT THEM all and shipped 'em off to the "dark side" ?
Is anybody out theeeeeeeeeeeeeere............?
I've just sent a STINKING email to the Discovery Channel, about the censorship of Gibneys documentary!
Well it look like the Discovery Channel have lost their gonads and prefer to LIVE on the "dark side" and not in an opn and FAIR Democracy!
What a circus!!!!! Alex Gibney's award winning film has been bought by DISCOVERY CHANNEL(3 year rights)on the basis that they are keen to air it, AND NOW, they have decided to NOT show it because it may be to 'controversial'???? Well, ain' that a SHAM! THEY BOUGHT IT TO CENSOR IT! SHAMEFUL!
Alex Gibney should HAUL them to court for mirepresentation and abuse of contract terms and abuse of Freedom of Speech and Public Information and defamation of character by censorship of a public rights FILM!
DON'T tell me,'Discovery Channel' is owned by BUSH(or Disney),or may as well be!!
So much for Discovery Channel teaching about, and showing, the truth!
I will not be watching Discovery Channel again,UNTIL they honour the Bill of Rights and their contract with Alex Gibney and the American PUBLIC to show the documentary as is,and UNCENSORED.
Are we living in the U.S. of A? Or KGB USSR?
DISGRACEFUL! And a blatant insult to American citizens, the public media AND ALEX GIBNEY personally!
p.s. I will see this documentary, even though it will be difficult to view(but when was reality EASY?)And,I shall buy TWO copies of the DVD,for me and my friends in honour of Dilwal, the innocent taxi driver, who was murdered at Bagram base during torture and interrogation.
WHY? Because I love my country and EXPECT more of our "public servants",who WE PAY,to protect American integity and honour,IN THEIR HANDS and by their actions and decisions! Well done Alex!
Peace,Salaam,Shalom!
I was glad to see,on Democracy Now,the interview about the documentary(Taxi to the Dark Side),by Alex Gilbey has been included in the Oscar nominations. With all the hype and distraction of the present election campaign,I do NOT forget that Bush and Cheney etc SHOULD STILL be put on trial for war-crimes,lies and abuse of the Constitution,Bill of Rights an BLATANT abuse of Executive Privaledge whilst in office.
Because I love my country(the USA),I have always been outraged by the American administrations/military officials etc who encourage human rights abuse by abusing their own Rule of Law and universal military conventions.Choosing instead,to support, fiscally AND financially, foreign regimes who ALSO commit universal human rights abuse. As if WE,the gret "Democracy" of the U.S. can hide our own human rights abuses in the SPAGHETTI of all the others and NOT be noticed,or have those responsible brought to account for their treachery.
Which,at the end of the day is comparably,as loathsome as the actions of any relatively minor external "terrorist" group.
The media spin continues to ENLARGE the presence and threat of terrorists(who are merely ONE pea in pod)as a tool to keep us believing that 'the sky is falling'and we must do anything, to protect ourselves,INCLUDING give up our morals and ethics and human conscience which tells us,instinctively, the difference between good and evil human action, and the NARROW line where both meet.
