No - your government will never go for it as the industrial-military complex would never allow it. Most of you have pointed the finger at oil companies but FYI, your military is the biggest consumer of oil therefore wars are necessary to keep the war machine going (America is not the only country guilty of using military might to influence politics to their advantage by any means). I must strongly disagree with most of the comments expressed concerning "global warming", overpopulation, and that the "oil men" in the White House are partially responsible for so-called "man-made global warming". Man-made global warming has NOT been scientifically proven to be the major contributor to any global warming; there are many top-notch climatologists and other experts who have not jumped on the "politically correct" bandwagon, and who can present much evidence contradicting the theory that CO2 produced from man-made sources is responsible for any "global warming". As a matter of fact, water vapor is far more efficient in contributing to the "greenhouse warming" effect than CO2. "Global warming" has become a fetish to the far-left, who want to control the economies of the world, and the left of course always lusts after more power over peoples' lives. Did you realize that astronomers have discovered that temperatures have been rising on Mars and Jupiter over the past few years? is it mankind doing the warming or is it the Sun?? How did Al Gore's "hot air" make it across interplanetary distances? Could it be that solar output during the past few decades has increased?? The sun does go through periods of increased energy output. And remember, there have been many periods in Earth's history when worldwide temperatures were considerably higher than they are today. I'm sure the polar bears, penguins, etc., which have been on this planet for millions of years, have seen much higher temps. than they are experiencing today.
It IS important that we find more oil (offshore drilling, oil shale, ANWR, natural gas, coal gasification, etc.) as well as developing solar, wind, and, most important, NUCLEAR. If France and Germany can provide 70% or so of their electricity from nuclear, why can't we? It's far safer than coal generating facilities.
Regarding the "population explosion" myth: Almost all of the European countries are now below the replacement rate of 1.9 children per family, with Spain and Italy about 1.1 "designer kids" per couple. The populations of most of the European countries will be declining over the next few decades, and the huge welfare costs to support the old folks will bankrupt those socialist countries. The same thing is happening in Japan. Even Canada is not reproducing at the replacement rate. Poor Russia-"dead men walking"-its population is expected to decline to 90 mil. over the next 50 years, while even China and India will soon fall into the "shrinking" category.
It is absolutely true that we are foolishly buying too much expensive oil from the Islamonazi states of Saudi Arabia, Iran, United Arab Emirates, etc. and we are indirectly paying for the Jihadis and the radical mosques and madrassas infesting this country and the bloodthirsty imams with their "hate the Jews and Christians" sermons and literature by buying their oil. This is why we need to develop our own oil resources here at home, and to heck with the radical environmentalist crowd. Even Barack Obama has signed onto domestic, offshore drilling.
I personally have mixed feelings about the Bush administration. He called Islam a "Religion of Peace" following 9/11, which is nonsense-jihadis such as OBL are merely following the dictates of the Quran, which is either to convert the kuffars, subdue them as subservient Dhimmis and require them to pay the jizya tax, or fight them and kill them or drive them out. Radical Islam wants to establish a world-wide caliphate, with Sharia law replacing the democratic rule of the US and other free countries. At least we haven't had any more attacks on US soil since 9/11. But I am concerned about he and his administration not stepping up to confront the problems of "softer jihad", which include pressuring organizations such as schools, airports, businesses, etc. to accept Islamic accommodations such as ritual foot baths, deletion of pork from hospital menus, "correct" orientation of toilets so as not to face Mecca, the banning of criticism of Islamic practices and the Quran and the hadiths as hate speech (the latter hasn't happened yet, but consider what just happened to Mark Steyn in Canada), etc.
In my humble opinion, we have much more to be concerned about than "global warming"-just read Mark Steyn's book "America Alone" to gain a better perspective on what really is important to our future as a country.

There was an interview on wired magazine 2 months ago i think (orange cover) that ilustrates some important points, read that interview, it show how some actions from now are stupid and some old solutions still fantastic.

Someone here spoke about kyoto not being signed by US, but looking at the other side 25 states in US and some large corporations signed and are implementing Kyoto now for some years.

I can't help but think that one thing that will hit us REALLY hard ,with global warming tagging along beside,will be population expansion versus available resources at present.
The first being oil,our capitalist/industrialist first OPIATE of choice!
There no doubt,in my mind that crude oil resources are ALREADY way past peak(1980's) and that already anything that comes UP out of the Middle Eastern/Persian Gulf wells is 55% seawater that they are forced to pump IN, in order to float the low pressure crude UP, as its past it's own gushing pressure. The wells are long past the gushing 'manna from heaven' capability,and have been on rationed supply for decades.The oil companies(OPEC)just UNRATION the supply,when socio-economic-political pressure gets too much,which makes it look to the customer AS IF THE SUPPLY is still infinite at crude level!! Good pre-election tactics,and we fall for it EVERYTIME!

How much water we use in growing our wheat,vegetables and FRUITS IN THE ORCHARD?
How much water we use to grow and admire our green lawns?
How much water we use to clean our nice motor vehicles-LOL- CAMELS are a better economic option any way!!! Forget the 'two-car' garage start thinking in terms of two-camel!
On every item of such products on the supermarket shelf,along side the nutritional values there ALSO SHOULD BE the stats of how much WATER HAS BEEN CONSUMED in order to afford us the luxury of JUST ONE OF THESE ITEMS,whether dairy,fruits or cereal etc!!!!

What about the fiscal cost of all the ocean/sea distillation plants we are going to have to build to change it from seawater to palatable drinking water??
