"As they say in the Middle East, "victory is in the eye of the beholder."
Oh Jamal,Jamal!
If my old eyes still behold,
the spill of childrens blood and murder cold,
then "victory" is dead,as dead as the empty bodies returning home.
No Jamal. No "victory" on either side, sad to say.
Just two pathetic sides filled with mutual bitter hate and blindly ready, when the tears and cheers are dry,to pick up the 'sword' and cover the ground in MORE red.
Take away the muscular posturing, the media coverage, silent OR jubilant crowds and sad banners flying, the denial of accountability and ALL you have is the swap of cold dead bodies of child murderers.
There is no difference, right now, between the Israeli Government and Hezbollah.
They both carry the 'sword' of death, they both shed blood, bear hatred and revenge.
Even the words of the Hezbollah man who has been in prison the longest, are still filled with hatred and his eyes are still glazed with blood-lust.
I don't see God OR peace in HIS eyes.
He was 'proud' to say, more or less, that once he's washed the stink of the Israeli jail off his skin,he WILL BE PLEASED TO MEET THEM AGAIN!
Does he mean,to "meet" and mutually agree to lay down weapons and establish peace for the generations to come?
To protect each others children instead of shedding their blood,or 'dashing their heads upon the rocks'?
NO! He means "meet" to SHED MORE BLOOD of tiny children, women and elderly.
The Israelis will quietly mourn their dead, dry their tears and RETURN with tanks, missiles, snipers, white tear gas, deadly shrapnel,D-9 bulldozers etc to 'greet' the Palestinians.
Alas,I don't see God or peace reflected in their eyes either.
No Jamal. No "victory" in bloodshed.
Both sides just reflect each other in a blood stained mirror.
But,show me opposing sides who are prepared to say,"ENOUGH"!
Who lay down their weapons in mutual agreement and turn their uniforms of war into civilian, uniform, intelligent, rational Democracy, based on open uncorrupted debate and parliament, agreeing to concede,(or conceding to agree)to find a MUTUALLY respectful peace that puts aside(but does not NEGATE)the bitterness of the past and focuses on a peaceful future, and I will stand on the roof and yell,"VICTORY"!!!
I hoped, and still do,that Hezboallah(and Hamas)could turn their passion and energies into valid Government practise of discussion, debate, sharing and voting for their nationalist identities.Putting their respective National identity and OWN people before their affiliations to foreign powers and supporters.
Show me a valid Lebanese party, including Hezbollah that is loyal,FIRST,to their country and the Lebanese people and not Syria/Iran. A multi-party Government that will commit to peace and rebuilding a great nation, and I will say "VICTORY"!
Show me a united and valid Palestinian nationalist Government, who agrees to peaceful reconstruction and growth, and I will say,"Victory".
Show me an Israeli Government that stops its ethnic cleansing, torture, murder and humiliation of Palestinian men, women, children and elderly.A government that agrees,at best,to a ONE-STATE solution, with right of return. Or,at least,a mutually peaceful TWO-STATE solution, and I will say,"VICTORY"!
Until then,Jamal,it's just two/three pathetic sides swapping dead bodies, drinking tea, cleaning up and then 'SUITING up'to spill more innocent blood.
I'm a realistic optimist Jamal, lol, and I stubbornly hold on to HOPE for a peaceful Holy Land.
AAH! but for now:
Mine eyes behold no victory or peaceful glow.
Just pathetic misery and deadly woe.
This past Wednesday, in a rare public appearance, Hezbollah's leader Sayyed Hassan Nassrallah greeted the five Lebanese freed from captivity in Israel after his organization returned the bodies of two captured Israeli soldiers.
"The period of defeat is over and the time of victory has arrived," said a beaming Nassrallah to a jubilant mass waving Hezbollah and Lebanese flags in Beirut.
