I, too, was very disappointed at seeing the way those dogs were being handled...dragged by ears, tail, neck, whatever, tossed around, thrown... :( Whatever happened to compassion, and wisdom? Empathy?

I realize that someone putting on monks' robes doesn't make that person Conscious, but one doesn't need to be Consciously Enlightened to have compassion.

And then...puppies were suddenly to be used to make a profit, and next thing you see is them throwing those precious puppies, dead, into a pile on the ground.

Very disheartening!

First time I have seen a program about Tibetans so filled with cruelty and selfishness. Couldn't help wondering what HH the Dalai Lama was thinking, if he saw that!

I agree with Grassroots, "Eye on Tibet"/Year in Tibet is wonderful. What an eye opener. I really enjoyed the entire hour and I plan to watch the remaining episodes.

Having studied Tibetan Buddhism for five years now, there was one part in the program that was disturbing. When the villagers were rounding up the stray dogs. One man took hold of a dogs head and beat it against the stone walkway. Another view was a man literally throwing a dog through the open doorway. Standing close by was a young Monk. He said nor did anything. How sad and disheartening. The core of Buddhism - end all suffering.

Thanks for the great introduction to this new series about a magnificent and ancient place.
It was wonderful.
Comical,in part and sad in another,to see how life and culture compliment AND CLASH with each other,on the common ground. That's life!

The arrival of the Panchem Lama was exciting, and had an irony similar to pomp and ceremony of Beijing at present. Especially where it became necessary to 'spring clean' the monastery AFTER 20 YEARS of letting the dust settle! LOL! Now that's what I call layed-back!
Hiding away the stray dogs(unsuccessfully sedated),into a barn,for the Lama's visit seemed a bit cosmetic considering.LOL!
Ironical. The Chinese soldiers 'cart off' the protesting Buddhists monks, and hide them away from public view,
And the Buddhists monks 'cart off' the protesting stray animals and hide them from public view.
Well,at least the monks DON'T beat and kill their dogs!

And the irony of the Panchem Lama(17 years old),being the SON of the Tibetan Communist Party Leader, being elected by that party, rather than being spiritually selected by the Buddhist Dalai Lama. Sad!
But,as they showed throughout, one of the HAPPY compromises between the factions. lol! Keep the peace as much as possible so COMPROMISE.
The Chinese 'commies' even had to "organise" the arrival ceremony THERE too! LOL!
Well I suppose one ceremony in every 20 years? Hey it's gotta be good!
Then the dust can settle again.
If I ever get up that way I must remember to stay at the hotel where the owner keeps one star HIDDEN! LOL!
That is a beautiful hotel, very artistic,AND with good flowing SEWAGE PIPES.LOL!

The BBC always make good documentaries. Thanks LinkTV,I shall look forward to the rest of the 'Eye on Tibet' series!
