After the food and dancing etc,we got talking about the present political climate etc.And there were 35 people here,all ages,color,faith,WW2 and Vietnam vets etc,and we took a count and 31 were going to vote for Obama.

Look up the word "ghetto" there are different kinds you know. The word is not all about race and poverty as you imply. My grandparents grew up in an ethnic ghetto. From their many shared memories I can tell you that it was a great and supportive environment where neighbor looked out for neighbor and it was a fine place to raise a family.
There are also ghettos like many in Europe where immigrants CHOOSE to isolate themselves from the general population because they wish to create a country within a country, where they can make their own laws based on the culture and religious beliefs they brought with them. Not about poverty. Not about FORCED segregation, but free choice.
"Third World" and "ghetto" are not dirty words as you imply. Most of the poor pathetic souls you describe aren't in "ghettos" other then in the myopic definition you apply to it. They are in wide regions of large countries where their heartless, self serving leaders ignore their plight because they are to busy lining their own pockets and imposing their political agenda or oppressive religious beliefs.
