Twenty years ago, I wrote some drivel to an editor about our rights being sliced away salami-style. It was some nonsense about a new inspection regime for motorcycles.
The laws that offend me the most,.. are those claiming to protect me from myself:
Helmet laws on motorcycles & now bicycles.
Seatbelt requirements
Irrational speed limits
All laws starting with –“possession of..”
All taxation (--if a government can’t turn a profit, with the resources that they have been given,.. I am not comfortable being an enabler to their cash addiction.)
But then, as a French Marxist once said; “When RIGHT & FREEDOM become RIGHTS & FREEDOMS, … neither exists as they are now divisible.
Need I say that PEACE and JUSTICE are antonyms?
Peace is what we call for to prevent justice; justice is what we call for when we live in intolerable peace.
If we consider that the whole purpose of Government is: to maintain its own existence, how do we ask for what we want?
After twenty some years in radical politics,… no house of governance has even heard my list. The list of things that would make me believe again.
Just one time,.. one thing on the list, read aloud & immediately laughed out of the house as ridiculous. I would maybe even vote!
Rule of law, isn,t all its cracked up to be,... but i am happy that it is still against the law in Montana, for a man to marry his horse. That is the kind of stench that one can never scrub out of a honeymoon suite. And you know that such couples WOULD come up here to canada,.. because we would understand & be tolerant of such things
Regarding mostly social issues, it seems as though more and more laws are being put "on the books" that take away our rights. Think about how many laws are made each year compared to how many laws are taken off the books. The scary thing is that it's happening so slow that we either don't notice it, or are don't seem to care since it happens in baby steps. Where will this lead us several decades from now?
I'm hoping an Obama constituency might be able to, at least, slow this process down but it seems to be a snowball effect with no end in sight. And it's as if any good idea get eaten up by political red-tape.
What laws do you personally think should be removed "from the books" for lack of a better term?
What antiquated laws need to be ammended for present day America?
