maybe the high evolution adds to this messed up. Try to listen to the music of "They don't care about us" by Michael Jackson. The lyrics speaks for itself.
I don't think humanity is on a downturn. Sociologically and culturally we're not feeding Christians to lions, and while Rwanda may have existed, it's different than the organized horror of the Holocaust. The current 'global generation' is seeing and learning at an exponential rate; much faster than my parents or grandparents generation. I think the greatest lesson that our country (and other countries) are learning is that peace, humanity and justice is something you work towards always. Passivity is a greater problem then indifference or hate. I think the next 20 years will be some of the most vibrant, culturally redefining years we've ever seen.
One of the questions we asked every artist we interviewed for this project was "What has to happen in your country -- or the world -- for human rights to be respected?" Every artist had a different answer. K'Naan, a most thoughtful person, was also the most dispassionate, saying essentially "people don't really care until something happens to them." Yet an organization like Amnesty International has supporters who have not necessarily experienced Human Rights abuses. So let's talk:
