Is the world out of balance because we do not understand the dreaming?

When I watched the new show, Dreams, Visions and Realities I was struck by how important it is that these two worlds come together... The dream time and the waking... the inner and the outer. It seems this conversation shows how it can be done... it shows us possibility of another way of being. One connected to the other, seamlessly. As Dr. Stephen Aizenstat says in the show, dreams are important because they connect us to our essential nature and help us to navigate towards our true direction. It is a space we need to respect for there is an intelligence at work. What if every human was navigated by their true nature? How different would our relationships, sense of belonging, and the dynamics of our world, be?

One of the reasons we created GLOBAL SPIRIT is to engage you, our community, in a lively discussion -- and through the miracles of technology, this is possible. So please participate by watching the show on January 22, 9pm ET/6pm PT on Link TV or online, and engaging in the live chat with Dr. Stephen Aizenstat to follow. It's easy! Just go here.

You can post questions in advance here below, or on Facebook. Please invite your friends. We look forward to being with you on January 22. You never know... asking the right question of a dream specialist might just change your life.

"What I got from the show Mystical Experience is seeing the beauty of universal diversity when wisdom, patience and respect are in the conversation." - Shahid Muhammad, chat participant quote via Facebook

Question: Does fearfulness lead to aggression and fundamentalism?
"Thank you for broadcasting such a wise and inspirational programme. Anyone who sees it must recognise the love and truth manifested by each speaker. Vibrant life is breathed into what can seem an abstract concept as the mystical and scientific are revealed as facets of the one." - Gillian Stokes, London

In this clip Bob Randall talks about how he is responsible for all of life and expresses how he LIVES this responsibility. How is Oneness lived in your life? How do you take responsibility for everything? We would love to get examples... showing us how to do it in this modern Western culture.

I am recommending the episode on "Earth Wisdom" to a mythology group I organize as we are visiting the State Indian Museum and exploring the wisdom and contributions of indigenous peoples in April. I am grateful that past episodes are available on-line at your web site :) Thank you."

In this clip from Earth Wisdom for a World in Crisis, a woman from Kenya says "there will be a pay back time."
Interview with Sandra Ingerman

Several months ago I had a conversation with a great American Shaman, Sandra Ingerman. It was my first interview in a long time and I have to say I am so happy it was with her… for there is an ease about her, a homeyness and deep presence that made me quite comfortable and allowed for a certain kind of flow to happen between us. I had committed to myself to make this Podcast something that was alive, in the moment and interactive... a conversation between two people trying to become fully human and I feel we really hit the mark (although I do cringe a bit when I hear my voice!!)

Listen to Part 1:

Interview with Sandra Ingerman, Part 1 by Global Spirit

There are two parts that we will be posting. In this first one which is 25 minutes long, we discuss how we as individuals can actively participate in the healing of the world. We talked specifically about the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, but what Sandra says can be applied to any world event... even those that are extremely positive, like what is going on in the Middle East, and the demand for the right to govern oneself. How can we support positive things and how can we work with the positive in seemingly negative situations? We also talked about what is being taught to us through world events and how we might listen to the symbolism, the news behind the news, and support what is being born. And then we moved into the idea of spiritual responsibility. How our individual shadow and dreams contribute to the collective, and what we manifest in the world together. And then lastly, we discussed what can we do to champion what is coming alive in us and around us and how our joy and following our hearts can guide us beyond ego desires to contribute to the health of the whole.Seems like a lot! But somehow... she made it simple and I am so grateful for her participation in this podcast and her great wisdom.I also want to thank Adrianne Anderson, super producer, for all her input and help, for without her this would not have been made.I hope you enjoy it and PLEASE comment... We want to hear what you know and what you want to hear more of.Megan

UPDATE: Part 2 of the Interview with Sandra Ingerman.

In Need of Earth Wisdom

This Sunday, June 27th, we will host a live video web chat with Brian Keane, Director of Land is Life. A man who has dedicated 20 years trying to get us to listen to the elders, to the people who have a proper relationship with the earth, with the sky, with the air and with the water. These people can help us now with this crisis in the Gulf, and they could have helped us long before....

Our response to the Gulf oil spill disaster has not been deep or complete. It has been from a place of policy and economics. We have sprung into action and forgotten to deal with the symbolic, spiritual and emotional nature of this crisis. I have seen no mainstream press organizations, the companies that caused the situation or the government communicating what it means to take FULL responsiblty for causing all this suffering.

It is easy to blame, but what is my role? Since we are not separate, I need to take responsibility for causing all this suffering. I have not spoken out enough, I have not listened properly, I have not respected our Mother, I have used resources mindlessly and I have forgotten to be thankful. But MOST importantly, I have been afraid to use my power to protect.

This crisis in the Gulf is a wake up call to me. It has awoken the "No" inside me. It has gotten me to a place where I will not rely on others to do the right thing in my home, my neighborhood, my community, my city, my country and my earth Mother. I will stick my nose in it and maybe make people angry or uncomfortable, but if I do not do this, then who?

There have been some people and organizations I think have responded fully and I thank them for it, like James O'Dea and Spirituality & Practice. They have expressed a full and appropriate response -- grief, sorrow and asking for forgiveness. Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee also is right to remind us of the importance of the symbolism of this experience.

On Sunday I plan to ask Brian how the indigenous people are responding to the Gulf oil spill. Then I am going to listen. I am going to listen with my heart and allow myself to feel the pain of my own and our collective forgetfulness. I am sorry it has taken us so long to get here. What I mean to say...is I am sorry it has taken me so long to get here.

Personal Journey: Deepak Chopra Talks of Internet and Oneness

How does technology and the Internet express Oneness? I was watching clips from the upcoming ONENESS: The Big Picture (premiering on May 9th) and Deepak said "The Internet is the emergence of something so powerful but we have not realized it's impact."

This feels very true and I think the proper respect is due. If I write an email or a blog from my heart, it seems to have much more of an impact...people respond in kind. It is like the actual energy of my intention comes through my writing, or more like it, this web of light that connects us. This is Oneness, is it not?

I recently went to a conference called Wisdom 2.0 Summit where they were exploring how we use technology to connect in ways that are beneficial to our well-being and useful to the world. I have to say that having lived and worked in both fields -- technology and spirituality (is this a field?...not sure what to call it, but I do work here...) I was prepared not to be impressed with the level of consciousness there, but I am happy to report that I was wrong. There are people at Google, Twitter, Facebook, Mashable and Zappos that seem to have a deep connection to their responsibility to the whole. I almost cried I was so relieved. I mean if you look at the Huffington Post, they have added a religion section and are dedicating themselves to supplying the world with great wisdom teachers and this is a mainstream political publication! They recently posted a story called "The Internet as a Living Symbol of Global Oneness" by Sufi teacher Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee. In this article he said, "I believe that the Internet is a gift we have been given. It provides an image of how the energy of life can flow freely in a way that defies the barriers of nationality and geography. Yet sadly because we are so immersed in the surface activity of this technology, in its tools of commerce and communication, we do not realize its deeper, symbolic dimension. A symbol is a connection to the sacred ground of our being which alone gives real meaning to our daily life."

I would love to hear Deepak comment on this.... I would love to hear how he honors this connectedness in his communications with life and community. I hope to ask this question on Mother's Day, May 9th when we host a live chat with him. I am certain mothers care about this issue because it is part of a larger issue. How do we live a life that honors life....

The Global Spirit team has now moved into full fundraising mode, exploring foundations and individuals that might support the series as a whole, or particular programs. We are looking for those supporters who believe this in-depth conversation about the "inner journey" of human consciousness and spirituality is of critical importance in these times. We're finding that even though Global Spirit themes are popular, there isn't much spiritual conversation in the mainstream media. We are determined to continue creating important programming and web content, and hope that our viewers who already enjoy the show will continue having fascinating conversations on the Global Spirit website.

In the meantime, we'll be showcasing short video excerpts from the two new shows we've recently finished editing: "ONENESS: The Big Picture" (using segments from the documentary, ONE: The Movie), and the upcoming national premiere of the documentary, Sound of the Soul. The excerpts will appear on this website, as well as YouTube, in the near future. We'll update you on this blog and on Facebook when they become available, so keep your eyes open!

Karen Armstrong's Charter for Compassion

Link TV has been honored to have Karen Armstrong, one of the world's most respected thinkers on religion, as a guest on our Global Spirit program "The Spiritual Quest". So when we heard about Armstrong's inspiring new project -- the Charter for Compassion -- we knew that Link had to get involved somehow.Armstrong's wish for her TED Prize was for help to create this Charter, which officially launched on November 12, 2009. Billed as "a call to bring the world together," Armstrong's Charter aims to unite all religious and spiritual traditions under the principle of compassion, based in the ethical code of the Golden Rule: "…Treat all others as we wish to be treated ourselves."The names of all signatories to the Charter will be sent to world leaders on December 31, 2009, so your time is running out to add your name to a list of distinguished individuals -- including His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Archbishop Desmond Tutu and author Isabel Allende -- who affirm peace and compassion as the core principle of our divided world. As our friends at YouthNoise have pointed out, the "coolest parts of this Charter is that we can all join in its message by signing, and the signature isn't only a personal pledge, but a pledge that will be sent to world leaders who have countries in conflict." You can learn more about the Charter for Compassion by watching this video below. We also encourage you to watch Karen Armstrong on Link's "The Spiritual Quest" episode of Global Spirit here, where she gives background on the Charter at the 45:10 mark of the video.

Behind-the-Scenes: Two New Shows in Post-Production

In early September we filmed two shows on the same day: ONE The Movie, featuring a lively discussion between Deepak Chopra and Riane Eisler, and Sound of the Soul, featuring Jewish, Muslim, and Christian guests discussing spiritual music as a vehicle for uniting people of different faiths. The ONE The Movie discussion proved to be unlike any other show taped thus far, as the guests approached the concept of Oneness from very different angles. Deepak described the importance of consciousness, as it connects everything in the universe, and how a scientific understanding of this influences and inspires personal transfomation. Riane came from a more sociological perspective, stating that it's not the transcendent, which will forever be a mystery, but the imminent, and the change we can affect here and now, that fuels her personal spirituality. She seemed to ask, how can we even talk about Oneness, and being united, if we are not first equal? It was a meeting that seemed, to me, challenging and exciting for both the guests and for our production team, and we look forward to presenting Deepak and Riane in a setting and conversation unlike any they've appeared in before. ***The Sound of the Soul program centers around a documentary of the same title, which explores Morocco's annual Fez Festival of World Sacred Music. The festival brings together incredible musicians of many different faiths, as they celebrate a passion for music as a way of communicating with and connecting to the Divine. The guests for this show include Sarah Talcott, the Youth Programs Director at United Religions Initiative, Marla Kolman Antebi, a community organizer and activist who works with Jewish and interfaith youth groups, and Kabir Helminski, a musician and Sufi sheikh who travels and teaches widely. Also, Sound of the Soul was directed and produced by Stephen Olsson, the Producer of Global Spirit.
Next Tuesday, best-selling authors Deepak Chopra and Riane Eisler will travel to our San Francisco studio for the taping of a new Global Spirit program. This episode will feature a discussion of ONE The Movie, and will include around 40 minutes of the original film. When considering guests for a discussion of "Oneness," we were working from a list of about ten people who are well versed in “Unity Consciousness” and we would likely enjoy on the program. But when thinking of how to give the discussion a unique depth, Stephen (the Director/Producer of Global Spirit) realized, "Why don't we bring in two people from the film?" This idea immediately clicked, because the nature of ONE The Movie is to jump quickly from fascinating interview to interview. This is a powerful and entertaining way for the film to raise a variety of issues and allow the audience to hear a variety of perspectives, but Stephen's idea allows for the perfect complement: offering the same guests we heard only briefly to now delve deeper into thoughtful conversation, not only with host Phil Cousineau, but finally, with each other. This is only the first in the next round of new Global Spirit programming!

Personal Journeys: How to Live What We Know

I really keep coming back to this idea of embodiment. It seems to me that for hundreds of years the spiritual quest has been done in a cave, in the cloisters...in the forest away from humanity and the influences of secular life. Deep practitioners sat on a cushion. They sat on a cushion and went somewhere...to a place of Oneness, to an emptiness, to the simple watching of a chattering mind, but it was not really done IN life. This might just be my impression, but it seems to me that one was supposed to transcend this world in order to be with God. One had to deny the body and the mundane in order to be with God.Maybe that is what we are missing at this time on planet earth. Maybe we are supposed to bring our connection to God into life and somehow live this connection. Maybe that is the richness and juice of life. My sense is that it is...and as I TRY (big sigh) to live this remembrance it seems impossible because of my worries, desires and complete fallibility. But of course this is the practice...when I remember I just bring myself back to trying to love what I am doing...trying to be present in my heart (again, another sigh), especially in traffic (I love to go fast). I am really curious if you think this is important? And how you live this remembrance in your life...what does it look like? How do you live it? Is it possible? Please tell me!!

Behind-the-Scenes: Creating the Next Global Spirit Shows!

I'm excited about what the Global Spirit team is up to now--creating the next round of new programs for the series. Some of the upcoming topics will include Meditation and the Mind (including cutting-edge scientific research), Dreams, and Spiritual Ecology. It's interesting to me that, in examining such themes, with immense breadth and depth, it becomes somewhat difficult to focus. We want to explore the richness of perspectives and experiences on any given topic, but at the same time, we hope to tighten the range of discussion and themes so that guests can really delve into conversation on a level that is not usually found on television. In this time of brainstorming, we are looking for specific themes and potential guests for upcoming shows, and would be very interested to know your ideas. Please share your comments here and they will be passed onto the whole team of GS producers and discussed in the next meeting.
