KCETLink Acquisitions Internship -- Documentary, Series, Cinema

Called "television without borders" by the late Peter Jennings, Link TV has been providing viewers with hard-hitting journalism, outstanding documentaries, and the best of world music videos and international cinema and television drama/comedy series. Become a part of KCETLink's cutting edge programming team by joining our internship program based in San Francisco.

After 12 years as a leader in independent media, Link Media recently merged with KCET, the nation's largest independent television station in Southern California to form KCETLink, a single non-profit organization. Together, the new KCETLink delivers high quality, culturally diverse programs to diverse audiences.

 

KCETLink currently reaches 33 million American homes through DISH Network and DIRECTV as well as 5.6 million cable TV households in Southern California. All Link TV internships are unpaid. Interns are asked to work a minimum of 12 hours per week. Duration is flexible to meet university requirements, but a minimum commitment of 12 weeks is optimal. All interns will be required to sign an Internship Letter of Agreement that outlines the duration and schedule of their internship.

 

Duties

  • Outreach to distributors, international broadcasters and filmmakers
  • Perform extensive online research on feature-length narratives, feature documentaries and shorts
  • Screen and evaluate films and series for documentary slate, world cinema strand Cinemondo and other programming strands
  • Log information into FileMaker and ProTrack databases and help maintain film library.
  • Perform general office tasks including copying, scanning, filing and mailing materials.
  • Assist acquisitions and scheduling department staff as needed.

 

Qualifications

  • Excellent communication skills; bilingual language skills useful.
  • Ability to multi-task, work independently and work well under pressure; will take initiative.
  • Familiarity with Internet research and database entry required.
  • Proficient Mac-user; knowledge of Mac-based applications/systems a must.
  • Knowledge of and interest in international affairs, politics and/or world cinema.

Position: Foundations/Development Temp

Job Summary

KCETLink, a leader in independent public media, has an immediate opening for an experienced Foundations/Development temporary employee. This full-time position will contribute to fundraising efforts that garner resources for KCETLink's operations and programs from family, private and corporate foundations; government agencies; major donors; and membership.

 

Essential Functions of the Job

The Foundations/Development temporary employee will develop and implement appropriate strategies to attract foundation, corporate foundation and government agency donors; research and initiate contact with new prospective donors; assist with determining short-term and long-term fundraising goals; work closely with the development staff, senior managers and key program staff to develop strategies for potential donors; research, formulate and write grant documents, including proposals, stewardship reports and acknowledgement correspondence; and monitor progress of and help establish timelines for grant projects, including detailed reports for funding sources. Additionally, this position will help with a range of general development functions, including drafting fundraising appeals and acknowledgment letters; donor management; gift processing; and database management activities.

 

Job requirements

For consideration, you must have a proven track record in foundation and corporate development; exceptional writing, editing, proofreading and communication skills; and experience with computer-based prospect management programs and Excel spreadsheet programs. The ability to determine priorities, set goals and objectives, and adhere to timelines is critical. The Foundations/Development temporary employee will work full-time at the San Francisco offices of Link TV. The duration of the temporary position is 4 months, with the possibility of an extension.

 

Preferred Qualifications

A Bachelor's Degree is preferred; an advanced degree is highly desirable. Familiarity with KCET and Link TV programming and the mission of independent public broadcasting is a plus.

Position: Asian Language Translators (part-time, independent contractor)

Link TV is a national television and media network that engages, informs and activates viewers to become involved in the world. We provide programming from around the globe that fosters wisdom, courage and compassion, connecting viewers to an increasingly global community.

Link TV seeks applicants for Asian language translators for our new half-hour weekly news program on Asia, which will be broadcast on LinkTV (Dish Ch. 9410, DIRECTV Ch. 375), online at www.linktv.org  and nationally on PBS.  We will be taking news excerpts, running 3-5 minutes from TV networks throughout Asia that you will be translating into perfect English. Translators will be asked to type and email back English translations so that they can be voiced at Link TV with those audio tracks edited into the news segments.

Applicants will be asked to take a test by watching a news segment in an Asian language, then translating it to English.  Speed is a consideration.

 

Position Responsibilities

  • Watching TV news broadcasts in an Asian language and typing them into proper English with correct syntax, grammar, and spelling
  • Working under deadlines for 24/7 television network

 

Professional Qualifications

  • Fluency in one or more of the following languages: Mandarin, Vietnamese, Japanese, Korean, Tagalog, or other Asian language
  • High degree of proficiency in English; able to write English well; knowledge of English grammar and syntax
  • Good English spelling skills required
  • Ability to work quickly and under pressure
  • Access to email with broadband connection to download FTP segments of newscasts and email translated versions
  • Demonstrated passion for global Asian issues, a plus


Compensation

Commensurate with experience.
