Bin Laden the environmentalist
Al Jazeera, QatarPresenter, Female #1
Al Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden held top industrial countries, most notably the United States that rejected the Kyoto Protocol, responsible for the climate change and its dangers.
Presenter, Male #1
Bin Laden said in a new audio tape that the talk about climate change is not an ideological luxury but a reality.
Guest, Male #1
This is a message to the whole world about those who are causing climate change and its dangerous effects, whether deliberately or not, and what we should do about that. Talk about climate change is not an ideological luxury but a reality. All of the industrialized countries, especially the big ones, bear responsibility for the global warming crisis. The majority of those states have signed the Kyoto Protocol and agreed to curb the emission of harmful gases, but Bush the son, and the Congress before him, rejected this agreement only to satisfy the big companies. They are themselves standing behind speculation, monopoly and soaring living costs. They are also behind globalization and its tragic implications. Whenever the perpetrators are found guilty, the heads of these countries rush to rescue them using public money.

Bin Laden proposed five solutions to end the financial crisis.
Presenter, Female #1
According to Bin Laden’s audio tape, the solutions include avoiding wasteful consumption, boycotting US products in order to stop the factories that harm the world’s climate and, despite the possible repercussions, boycotting the US dollar in global trade.
Guest, Male #1
Noam Chomsky was correct when he compared the US policies to those of the Mafia. They are the true terrorists and therefore we should refrain from dealing in the US dollars and should try to get rid of this currency as early as possible. I am certain that such action will have grave repercussions and a huge impact, but this would be the only way to free humankind from slavery to America and its companies. Whatever the repercussions are said of this action, remaining in slavery to them has more severe and dangerous repercussions.
Britain to stop exporting useless bomb detectors to Iraq
Baghdad TV, IraqPresenter, Female #1
The British Department for Business, Innovation and Skills announced a ban on the export to Iraq and Afghanistan of the explosives detector, the ADE651. The device is marketed by a British company. The department said in statement that tests have shown that the technology used in the ADE651 and similar devices is not suitable for bomb detection. It added that the British embassy in Baghdad has raised concerns with Iraqi authorities who had bought the ADE651.

The Iraqi authorities have stepped up their efforts following the arrest of the director general of a British company on suspicion of fraud and misrepresentation. The suspect is being accused of exporting ineffective bomb-detection devices to Iraq. Sources have confirmed that the issue was presented for discussion at the British parliament. Meanwhile, the British government announced a ban on the export of certain bomb-detection devices to Iraq. In response, the Iraqi government ordered an immediate inquiry into the case. Member of the Iraqi Security and Defense Committee, Abbas al-Bayati, said that his office has called for an inquiry in order to discuss the issue and its implications. Al-Bayati further said that his committee will take the appropriate measures, pending the results of the investigation. Iraqi Member of Parliament, Hussein al-Faluji, called on the Iraqi government to take a definite decision and launch an investigation into the allegations of fraud, as many of these bomb-detectors were proven to be ineffective. Iraq has reportedly imported a large quantity of bomb-detection devices from Britain. The spokesperson for the British police said in statement that they have arrested and questioned the Director General of the British-based ATSC Company, Jim McCormick, on suspicion of fraud and misrepresentation. The source added that McCormick, who is a former British police officer, personally designed the bomb-detection device despite his lack of knowledge in the field. The arrest of McCormick came after the British government received various complaints by the Iraqi government, which raised concerns over the ineffectiveness and inability of these bomb-detectors to work properly. McCormick, which seems to use his knowledge as a former security officer, sold thousands of dollars worth of bomb-detectors to the Iraqi government, in a deal estimated at $85 million. The Iraqi government has returned all the devices purchased for its police and military forces. The bomb-detection devices were widely used by the Iraqi army at security checkpoints across Baghdad, including all roads leading to the Green Zone. Many Iraqi civilians have been killed in bomb attacks, which may have been averted if McCormick’s devices did what they were intended to do.
US Congress should not interfere in Arab media
Al Aqsa, GazaPresenter, Man #1
Lebanese Information Minister Tarek Mitri gave a speech during the special meeting held by Arab information ministers, reiterating that his country is opposed to the bill recently passed by the US Congress calling for punitive measures to be taken against satellites companies that carry the signal of resistance television stations, such as Al Aqsa and Al Manar.
Guest, Male #2
We expressed our concerns and even our opposition to measures restricting the freedom of the press, especially those advocated by the US House of Representatives.
Reporter, Male # 3
With this clarity, Lebanese information Minister Tarek Mitri announced his country’s opposition to foreign intervention in freedom of the press. This comes after the US Congress passed a law calling for punitive measures to be taken against satellite companies that carry the signal of resistance television channels such as Al Aqsa and Al Manar. Arab information ministers held a special meeting in Cairo presided over by Khaled Al Nasri and called on Arab countries to use wisdom and courage by taking a decisive Arab position on this issue. He reiterated that the freedom of Arab press has been entrusted to them and they have the duty to ensure that it is maintained.
Guest, Man # 4
The freedom of the press is entrusted to us. We must continue to provide all forms of support to our Palestinian people’s struggle for freedom against occupation, displacement and forceful migration. Our media must support our Palestinian people and support everything that serves their unity.

Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa focused on a previous proposal discussed by the league to form an Arab media commission in order to face challenges and protect the freedom of the press.
Guest, Man # 5
I would like to discuss the Arab League’s previous proposal of forming a commission that advocates for the freedom of the press, dialogue, modernity and that can face challenges facing Arab countries.
Reporter, Man # 3
The opening session was public and included positive statements in support of Arab media, freedom of expression, and rejecting harassment of Arab media.

The US headed by President Obama is launching a new kind of war with the objective of eliminating resistance television channels such as Al Aqsa satellite channel. The Zionist occupation planes shelled the channel during their aggression on Gaza but they failed to silence it.
Reporter, Man # 3
They are afraid of Al Aqsa satellite channel because it reinvigorates the people’s spirit. These channels that want to bring back the time when Arabs and Muslims used to lead the world have been shelled and their headquarters destroyed. These channels, however, did not give up. People looked for ways to continue broadcasting. Now, the US Congress passed a law threatening satellite carriers if they do not drop channels that allegedly support terrorism.
Guest, Man # 6
Attempts to silence the channel haven’t stopped. But we have the will and determination to continue. The US tries to achieve its objectives using military and psychological methods, as well as its own media. But these methods fail to achieve their intended objectives; it launches a war on opposing media by jamming their signals, and adding them to the list of channels that allegedly support terrorism.
Reporter, Man # 3
Journalists refused these steps, and said that the US contradicts itself. While on one hand it calls for democracy, on the other it tries to silence opposing voices.
Guest, Man # 8
It is a blatant contradiction. We, the Palestinians and many other Arab and free nations in the world, refuse this logic. The US contradicts itself; it claims to be an oasis of freedom in the world, but at the same time it pressures Arab information ministers to close down certain satellite channels that broadcast things that the US does not like. This is absolutely unacceptable.
Reporter, Man # 3
These satellite channels expressed the dreams and aspirations of the nation, which explains why people called on Arab officials to make concrete decisions to protect these channels.
Guest, Man # 9
Just like all other Arab nations, we hope that this meeting materializes in tangible steps and moves towards a clear position of rejection of US intervention in Arab media. We hope that the commission that was agreed to be formed during today’s meeting will be used to advance Arab media, not to influence it one way or another.
Reporter, Man # 3
The US justifies its policies, which are aimed at serving its interests, in the name of democracy and freedom of expression. And anyone that does not adhere to American standards is considered a terrorist. An accusation that is used to make sure that everyone remains under American domination. Dubai 'identifies suspects in Hamas commander killing'
Al Arabiya TV, UAEPresenter, Male #1
The Dubai police announced that it was able to solve the mystery behind the death of Mahmoud al- Mabhouh, a prominent Hamas member. The police statement indicated that the suspects left the country before the body of al- Mabhouh was found in a Dubai hotel. Initial investigations concluded that the crime was carried out by an experienced criminal group that was following the moves of the victim even before he came to the UAE. Initial investigations also revealed that most of the suspects carry European passports. Al Qassam Brigades, Hamas’ military wing, accused Israel of assassinating al- Mabhouh and vowed to retaliate harshly.
Reporter, Male #1
It seems that new information has led Hamas leaders to change their account of how one of its military leaders died. One week after it had announced that al- Mabhouh died of a heart attack in a Dubai hospital, the movement said that new information emerged about the death of al- Mabhouh and that it will be released in coordination with authorities in the Emirates.
Guest, Male #1
We did not want to announce the details of the assassination, so that the investigation could continue. We wanted to wait until we had confirmed information about the assassination. When we were sure that it was indeed an assassination, we announced it.
Reporter, Man # 2
Hamas reiterated that al- Mabhouh was on the Israeli hit list due to his role in the movement, and in different military operations, most important of which were the capture of the two Israel soldiers Elan Sa’don and Afes Spartaso during the first Intifada. After this operation, Israel expelled him from Gaza to Syria which became his home until the late 1980s. Perhaps, this explains why al- Mabhouh’s family quickly accused Israel of his assassination.
Guest, Man # 4
From the very beginning, we did not have any doubt that the Israeli Mossad was behind it. Indeed, we are accusing Israel and the Mossad in particular.

Hamas received the body of al- Mabhouh from the UAE authorities on Thursday and a funeral procession was held for him in Damascus. Hussein Shihada, Al Arabiya.

Haiti: AView from the Middle East
Link TV, USASeldom does one watch a lead news story on Middle Eastern satellite television that does not offer a steady rotating stream of images of death, destruction, and devastation from places like Gaza, Fallujah, or Kabul. These past few days, however, although the images were familiar, they were from Haiti, and the devastation was not man-made.
Large networks such as Al Jazeera rushed to send their crews to Port-au-Prince, and the vast majority of news satellite networks operating in the region have been competing to update their viewers about the devastation and human agony in this tiny Caribbean country, but à la Middle East ...it had to be about more than just Haiti.
In the immediate aftermath of the earthquake, Middle Eastern television networks like their counterparts in the U.S. focused on the rescue efforts and finding survivors. Reporters on the ground struggled to convey the destruction and the magnitude of the catastrophe that inflicted the Western Hemisphere's poorest nation. But it only took two days before the images of a devastated Haiti were juxtaposed with those of destruction in Gaza and Iraq.
"These images of Port-au-Prince remind me of Gaza," said a presenter on the Iranian Al Alam TV. The report showed a street in Port-au-Prince with collapsed concrete-block homes, then flashed back to a concrete building in Rafah which was completely destroyed last January by rockets fired from Israeli jets.
Meanwhile, Israeli television stations have been airing daily updates of Israeli humanitarian efforts in Haiti. Images of a five-month-old Haitian baby boy being nursed at an Israeli field hospital in Port-au-Prince were looped endlessly. IBA television aired segments of a report prepared by CNN's Elizabeth Cohen marveling over Israel's quickness in setting up a field hospital.
"It's all propaganda," said an analyst on Nile TV from Cairo. "They're willing to travel ten-thousand kilometers to deliver a baby in Haiti, but won't allow food and medicine to cross 100 meters into Gaza where children are dying...it's all propaganda."
Hamas-run Al Aqsa TV did not waste anytime to show solidarity with the "Haitian Brothers," as the reporter narrated a video package showing Palestinians in Gaza collecting aid for Haiti.
"The residents of Gaza, who are themselves dependent on aid as a result of the Israeli blockade that deprives them of food, medicine and other basic necessities, are willing to donate goods such as milk and blankets to Haiti," the broadcast continued.
Meanwhile, Dubai, which has been recently a subject of criticism for its extravagance while piling up debt pledged to provide immediate assistance to 200,000 children in Haiti through international partners. Dubai TV aired a report showing a plane being loaded with a hundred tons of food and supplies heading to Port-au-Prince, a gift from the Emirate. More on the way, the report promised.
Arab countries, especially the oil-rich ones, have been criticized in Western media for not doing enough to help the victims of the earthquake in Haiti. In reality, many of these countries have already either pledged or sent their support to the devastated nation. Jordan TV showed a report about Jordanian medics heading to Haiti...but this was not reported on CNN.
On the Lebanese channel, New TV, a commentator criticized the United States for rushing to save lives in Haiti while waging two wars, in Afghanistan and Iraq, causing the death of more than one million civilians, according to him.
"Oh! The hypocrisy," he lamented.
