Progress Theatre

Bio:
Progress Theatre [PT] is an interfaith touring ensemble of multi-disciplined performers committed to using art to encourage social consciousness, cross-community dialogue and cultural awareness. Since it's founding by theatre graduates of New York University's renowned Tisch School of the Arts in 2001, PT has creating original musical productions inspiring audiences coast-to-coast with dynamic performances that fuse theatre, dance, blues, storytelling, spirituals, R&B and spoken word to explore the social concerns and insights of today's young adult generation. Hailed by the San Francisco Chronicle as "the next wave of aesthetics in words" and by New York ShowBusiness Weekly as "astonishingly vivid," Progress Theatre is at the forefront of a new generation of American Theatre. PT has been featured at over 100 theatres and venues across the country including sold-out performances at New York's world-famous APOLLO THEATRE and PERFORMANCE SPACE 122, DC's KENNEDY CENTER and residencies at YERBA BUENA CENTER FOR THE ARTS (San Francisco), NEW JERSEY PERFORMING ARTS CENTER and the NATIONAL BLACK THEATER FESTIVAL. In March 2008, Progress Theatre will represent American Musical Theatre with their signature piece "PEACHES" on tour as part of the international World Music Theatre Festival (www.wmtf.nl) in Europe. By engaging various communities onstage and off, Progress Theatre strives to change the make-up of average theatergoers, encouraging audiences diverse in race, age and spiritual background.
