In 4REAL Peru, Sol Guy and Cameron Diaz trek high into the Andes mountains of Peru where a young medicine man Puma Singona of the Quechua tribe is keeping his people's ancient knowledge and wisdom alive.
When he was just six years old, under the guidance of his grandfather, Puma began his training as a traditional medicine man. By fifteen, he was traveling to international conferences to speak about Quechua traditions and culture. Today, at 27, he sits on his community’s council of elders, runs a cultural organization that focuses on teaching tradition to youth, and is internationally recognized for his powerful healing and teachings.
"For our young people, when there is a strong feeling of where they come from then wherever they go they become leaders," says Puma, about his work with young Quechuas. "It is who they are and where they come from that matters the most."
Puma introduces Sol and Cameron to his community, including the young people of his youth group, Cusi Huayna (Happy Youth), before taking them straight up into the mountains for a sacred winter solstice ceremony. Cameron, who bonds instantly with the pachamama (Mother Earth)-loving Puma, ends her visit with an unforgettable insider's tour of one of the Seven Wonders of the World, Machu Picchu.
"I've always had a connection to the earth," Cameron says. "To knowing that was what Puma stood for, his teachings, that that's what he was putting out into the world, it was one of those things that goes, 'okay, that's why I’m here.'"
