Akram Khan is a rising star in the British world of modern dance. His charisma is very much based on his background in classical Indian Kathak dance. The discipline and beauty of the form is described and demonstrated in wonderful sequences between Khan and his teacher, and in turn between Khan and his own students. The film culminates in a dance piece using the music of Nithin Sawney.
About The Akram Khan Dance Company
The Akram Khan Company seeks to create dance that is bold, uninhibited, intelligent, inventive and challenging by collaborating with international artists, often working in other artforms, who are at the height of their profession. Performances may take the form of company works, classical Kathak solos, or artist collaborations, all of which draw on influences from North Indian classical dance, Indian classical music, and Western contemporary dance and music. The intention is to create a shifting language that is unique, personal, elegant and distinctly recognizable.
