Al Jazeera English - Witness: Clerical Cupid
In this episode of the Al Jazeera Witness series, Iran's first internet dating agency is run by Jaffar Ardabili, a Muslim cleric.
In Iran, like anywhere else in the world, one of the major preoccupations of young people is to find a partner and to get married. But in a country where boys and girls are not allowed to mix freely, meeting Mister or Miss Right is not easy. In Iran, it is not Cupid wielding his arrow that young lovers rely on, but rather a young, friendly Muslim cleric. Jafar Ardabili runs the Amin International Family and Cultural Institute, Iran's first officially sanctioned internet dating agency. The prospective couples are allowed three meetings. Two meetings are under the strict supervision inside the center and a third brief encounter on their own follows. After that they either marry or never see each other again. Iranian filmmaker Leila Lak went to meet the Clerical Cupid and talk to some of his customers to see first hand if his methods work.

About Al Jazeera - Witness
Rageh Omaar presents Witness, a half-hour daily documentary series which features short, specially commissioned or acquired films gathered from independent filmmakers.
Each documentary reveals the unknown lives of ordinary people, following their lives, telling their stories and portraying the challenges that confront them. Our witnesses are people in a situation or those who have observed them first hand.
The films cover conflict, belief, the past and the future and as well as bringing new stories to light they showcase the talents of a new breed of multi-skilled, frontline journalist. In the studio, Rageh will further explore the issues raised in the films, with expert guests on the subject matter and the filmmakers themselves.
