Al-Quds Educational Television is a small, public service, non-profit channel based in Ramallah, which gives Palestinians the chance to show their own stories, to their own communities. Founded in 1997 by Daoud Kuttab, outspoken champion of free Arabic media, the station depends on European donations to keep itself on air, and its 23 journalists in jobs.

It is under constant threat of financial ruin, Israeli repression and falling foul of the Palestinain factions it criticises. Yet the staff retain an energy and commitment to gathering and delivering the objective reports that have made their name and reputaion.

This film meets some of the characters both on and behind the screens at the station, and explores the stories they want to tell the world about life in the West Bank. Ramallah TV turns the tables and shows us the kind of television that Palestinians are making and watching for themselves, while we watch them on our TV News screens.

About Al Jazeera - Witness

Rageh Omaar presents Witness, a half-hour daily documentary series which features short, specially commissioned or acquired films gathered from independent filmmakers.

Each documentary reveals the unknown lives of ordinary people, following their lives, telling their stories and portraying the challenges that confront them. Our witnesses are people in a situation or those who have observed them first hand.

The films cover conflict, belief, the past and the future and as well as bringing new stories to light they showcase the talents of a new breed of multi-skilled, frontline journalist. In the studio, Rageh will further explore the issues raised in the films, with expert guests on the subject matter and the filmmakers themselves.
