She has worked as a reporter for a variety of publications including The North American Newspaper Alliance, the Charleston News and Courier and The New York Times. Bokara has produced and hosted television and radio interview shows including "Nine In the Morning," a daily hour long talk show on the CBS station in Washington D.C. In New York City she had her own radio column on WNYC, and also produced "Tex MacCrary Time" on WOR. In the 1960s Bokara performed with Tom Eyen"s "Theater of the Eye" at La Mama and later at the Spoleto Festival in Italy.

Bokara has had exhibitions of her paintings at the Farah Damji Gallery in New York City, and the Zen Center in San Francisco.
