Abu Musab al-Zarqawi had been described as a blood-thirsty monster, a terrorist more feared by western security officials than any other. The US offered a 25 million dollar reward for his capture, dead or alive. On June 9, 2006, Zarqawi was killed in a US airstrike near Baghdad.
