Afghanistan isn’t just suffering the after-effects of war, but also from years of drought. Many rivers are too low to generate electricity in power-stations. Thousands of children are dying because they have drunk contaminated water. One of the biggest post-war projects is the establishment of water-supplies and a sewage system. 700 million dollars have been earmarked by the World Bank in Washington for the next few years to do just that. Pipes are being laid and countless dwellings are being reconnected to the water mains.
