The films shows how it's possible to utilize light from the sun in innovative technological designs in urban environments. Researchers from the "light laboratory" in Austria have developed exciting new methods to illuminate dark alleyways, old buildings and covered bus terminals all throughout Europe.
In the gloomy town of Rattenberg, Austria, the narrow alleyways are deserted because of the huge shadows cast by the mountains and buildings. The team of light researchers used giant reflectors, known as heliostats, to capture the sun's rays, thus providing Rattenberg with daylight. This exciting new technology is highlighted in this special In Focus report.
