A special Deutsche Welle report on Rodolfo Stavenhagen, who was selected in 2001 from a pool of applicants including more than 20 Nobel prizewinners as the first U.N. Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms of Indigenous People. Since then, the 70-year-old anthropology professor has been traveling, visiting Native American tribes in Mexico and South America , Bushmen tribes in Africa and the Arctic-region Inuit, and others. He reports regularly to the UN Commission on Human Rights in Geneva on the problems of the different groups.
