Six years ago, Sabriye Tenberken set out from Germany to begin a school for the blind in Tibet. She rode her horse across the countryside to various villages to find children for the school. Sabriye Tenberken is also blind. She lost her vision at the age of eleven. Her mission now is to dispel myths about blindness in Tibetan culture, by educating and empowering these young children. She teaches them how to read Braille, operate a typewriter and move independently with a walking stick. The children are also being educated in math, Tibetan, Chinese and English. Her tremendous love and support is helping to transform these children into active, healthy individuals who have enthusiasm and hope for their future.
