Company Sergeant Major Johann Eschen was a German soldier deployed in Kosovo for the peace-keeping operation. What he experienced there stays with him to this day. In the summer of 1999 his unit reached a mountain village where a woman had been in labor for several days. In the last moment, the soldiers saved the mother's and child's lives in a dramatic way. Later, back in Germany, Eschen wondered what happened to the baby. Was it still alive, and if so, where was it living? He decided to travel back to Kosovo in search of the child. He wanted to know if his efforts had been pointless. This film accompanies him on his journey and reports on the humanity in the midst of the war and on the edge of peace.
