A special Deutsche Welle report on the 2006 presidential recall election in Venezuela, when Venezuelans decided the fate of President Hugo Chavez.

Chavez had been battling Venezuela's elites for years, mainly the oil producers and other rich industrialists, but is very popular with the country's poor.  The question was whether enough of his supporters would turn up at the ballot box.  The election was heavily scrutinized for fairness, by the Organization of American States, the Carter Center, the European Union, and thousands of international electoral observers.
