Iraq: Beyond the Green Zone (Four Hour Special)
In four hours of special programs, Link TV takes you outside the now famous “Green Zone” in Iraq, where most of the world’s media must huddle for safety. In documentaries and programs never seen on television before, we show you an Iraq War as recorded by people on the ground, Iraqis caught in the crossfire, and correspondents who still dare to venture beyond the Green Zone.
PART 1 (First Two Hours)
This special programming begins with an address by one of the world’s most distinguished war correspondents, Robert Fisk, The Independent reporter who has covered the Middle East for more than thirty years. He takes us inside his new book, “The Great War for Civilisation: The Conquest of the Middle East,” with chilling stories of covering major conflicts from the Iranian Revolution to the war in Afghanistan. Fisk paints an indelible portrait of Osama Bin Laden, who he has interviewed many times; and he gives his best estimate of how the United States and Britain can emerge from the morass in the Middle East.
Joining us in the Link TV studios to discuss “Iraq: Beyond the Green Zone,” is award-winning journalist, Mark Danner. This longtime staff writer at The New Yorker and regular contributor to The New York Review of Books, is also the author of “Torture and Truth: America, Abu Ghraib, and the War on Terror.”
PART 2 (Second Two Hours)
Link TV is proud to preview the film, The Dreams of Sparrows, the work of Iraqi director, Hayder Mousa Daffar and his team of filmmakers. Excerpts from the film show you perspectives from different walks of life in war-torn Iraq, from the schools to the insane asylums, concluding with the battle over Fallujah and the devastating death of one of the crew members.
Free for the first time to record their homeland, these Iraqi filmmakers take us on a journey far from the cordoned precincts where foreign journalists must stay.
Joining us in the Link TV studios is independent journalist Dahr Jamail. Weary of the overall failure of the US media to accurately report on the realities of the war in Iraq for the Iraqi people and US soldiers, Dahr Jamail went to Iraq to report on the war himself. We hear his first-person dispatches from the war zone.
