Author and filmmaker Saul Landau and guests talk about current events, politics, social issues, religion, entertainment, and a wide range of other topics.
In this segment, Landau hosts a discussion with author Robert Fuller about his recent book Somebodies and Nobodies: Overcoming the Abuse of Rank. Somebodies and Nobodies is Fuller's manifesto for an anti-rankist, "dignitarian" movement. The problem, he asserts, is not with rank itself; power and status differences are a legitimate fact of life. Rather, rankism comes into play when rank is exploited and abused - when someone is made to feel like a "nobody," thwarting the universal human desire for respect. Rankism is rampant in families, schools, the workplace - in nearly every institution and aspect of our lives. Fuller's goal is that we learn to identify rankism as we have racism and sexism, and send it packing like its better-known cousins.
