The Bundeswehr mission in Afghanistan takes German soldiers into Taliban-controlled areas of Kunduz province in the north. The troops are embroiled in clashes here almost daily – some are wounded and killed in the fight. These men and women in uniform are surprisingly open in recounting their experiences on the ground in Kunduz – how they handle fear, the dangers, the heat, the hardships and the deaths of their fellow soldiers. A TV crew spent a week with soldiers on duty in Afghanistan, reporting from both the battle zone and the safety of base camp.
