Ai Weiwei is China's leading concept artist and also a gallerist, designer and, on top of that, an outspoken political dissident who voices harsh criticism. He turns the spotlight on social ills where most would prefer to look away, and when he does, it's the authorities who turn a blind eye to him. Of himself, he says he is always a critic, but always a collaborator and, in Chinese, Weiwei means the equivalent of "double negative." Munich's "Haus der Kunst" gallery has devoted its largest ever solo exhibition to him, entitled "Ai Weiwei. So Sorry". DW-TV accompanied the artist for one year.
