As much as the new scrapping bonus has been criticized for its economic and environmental ramifications, it seems to be working. Germany's Federal Office of Economics and Export Control is still receiving some 6000 applications every day.The scrapyards are bursting at the seams with vehicles waiting to be junked, even if they still have lots of potential kilometers left on them. Car dealers can hardly keep up with demand from customers rushing to cash in on the scrapping bonus. Compact cars are selling like hotcakes and delivery times are getting longer and longer, as Germany drives on in a scrapping fever.
