It's the biggest machine in the world and its electricity consumption is that of a medium-sized town: the particle accelerator of the European Organization for Nuclear Research, CERN, in the vicinity of Geneva. The scientists at CERN are interested in nothing less than the origin of the universe. They have questions such as: what role does chance play? What about personal responsibility?
