Those clinging to familiar pleasures from Soviet days come to the “Rossia” supermarket at Charlottenburg station which offers all the old favorites: for example birch juice from Siberia and honeydew melons from Uzbekistan, Baltic beer, smoked salmon, caviar and of course vodka. The Russian customers are people washed up in the West by Perestroika: winners and losers of the new post-Communist system.
