Despite many conservation programmes species are continuing to go extinct at just the same rate. Genetic data banks have been set up to prevent these species' genetic information from being lost too. This is why the genomes of thousands of species threatened by extinction is being collected and stored at minus eighty degrees. But can animals on the brink of extinction really be saved by cloning them? The technology is ready, but whether we as a society are, is a different question. It's a question that is not, however, being asked in public.
