They don't just want the bones for traditional Chinese medicine, they also want the hides. The Indian police are clamping down on the tiger trade as forcefully as if they were hunting down drugs lords. Wealthy Tibetans adorn themselves with tiger hides, because in their country they are considered a status symbol. It took an appeal by the Dalai Lama to trigger a rethink.
