Bodiedulla Bhramaiam, a rice farmer in India, has never come by credit easily, much less by the money to pay it back. But the effects of the ongoing financial crisis have pushed him to the brink. Until recently, he had been accustomed to paying 20% interest. Now he has to come up with as much as 36% on new loans. The global financial crisis has arrived in India and trickled through to all levels of society. Farmers are feeling the credit crunch. And the end is not yet in sight, as traders are finding ever new ways to speculate with food commodities
