More than half of our food ends up in the bin -- over ten million tons every year. Most of it -- one out of every two potatoes or heads of lettuce and every fifth loaf of bread, for example -- is disposed of before it even reaches consumers.
Nobody thinks throwing food away is a good thing: the young say, "because there are people starving in the world," whilst older generations remember how hungry they were during the war and say "we were grateful for every crust of bread we got." But we’re all involved in this current problem of wasted food. Filmmaker Valentin Thurn explores the reality in our rubbish bins.
