Choute was a happy little seven-year-old until an earthquake struck Haiti at the beginning of the year. He was buried under the rubble of a collapsed building. It took two days to rescue him. Choute survived but his right leg had to be amputated. A few weeks after the disaster the Johanniter, the German Protestant branch of the Knights Hospitalers, set up their mobile prosthetics workshop in Leogane. They want to make artificial limbs for many of the approximately 4000 amputees in Haiti, including little Choute.
