Nobody can say which road Opel will be taking in Germany. The outlook for the carmaker was already looking gloomy by the close of last year. Now it's a question of life or death. Its American parent company General Motors is hoping for a boost of billions from the U.S. government's bailout package. But will it be enough to help fuel a recovery in far-off Germany? Employees at the Rüsselsheim and Bochum plants are already worried about their job future. The car dealers, too, would be more than sorry to see the long-established and well-respected company go belly up.
