China has the world's second-largest economy and produces many goods for other countries. But the impact on the environment and the people is alarming: 300 million Chinese have no access to clean water. In many places, air pollution is a major health hazard. Besides mountains of rubbish, China produces the greatest amount of greenhouse gases, and is an early victim of climate change. One village though deliberately rejects firms that are bad for the environment. But even here, in Tengtou, environmental problems exist.
