For years, Opel symbolized stability. The auto manufacturer is part of the foundation of the German economy. But the question many dread to ask now is whether Opel has kept pace with the times. Factory parking lots that were once jammed with auto-workers' cars are now depressingly empty. Production has been scaled back in all of Opel's key plants, while workers sit at home worrying and waiting.
