Pine Island Bay in West Antarctica is a single, vast ice sheet. Pine Island Glacier and Thwaites Glacier, two huge rivers of ice, flow into this bay, and both of them are losing ice at a dramatic rate. More than four kilometers of ice are lost every year. Fifty-two geologists, oceanographers, and geo-physicists are setting off from New Zealand to West Antarctica. They’re coming with a host of questions. What is happening in Pine Island Bay?
