When Rita Lemoine splurged on a pair of fashionable shoes, she hardly suspected they’d been treated with a toxic substance which made her fall ill. The anti-mildew agent Dimethyl fumarate, or DMF, was banned by the European Union in 2009, but it is still often found in products imported from countries like China. In the absence of thorough checks, many contaminated articles find their way into shops. This documentary follows the trail of some of the harmful substances found in footwear and garments sold in Europe.
